For Dr. Portnoff, helping patients feel genuinely comfortable at the dentist’s office is her favorite part of this job by far! There is no greater feeling for her then when someone comes in for their appointment with lots of anxiety and leaves saying, “I can’t believe I was nervous about that!” Turning negative experiences into positive ones means the world to her, and she’s ready to do the same for you here in New City. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Ever since she can remember, Dr. Portnoff has known that she wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. Dentistry in particular felt like a natural fit because it brought together her interests in science and medicine with more artistic concepts. Plus, her grandfather (a now-retired pediatric dentist) set an amazing example for her because of the amount of passion he had for dentistry and the great kindness and empathy he shared with every patient.
Today, Dr. Portnoff still looks forward to educating patients, helping them feel at ease, and preventing future dental problems every day. This career is truly the right fit for her own strengths and passions!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
After studying at Union College in Schenectady, Dr. Portnoff graduated with her dental doctorate from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, where she was selected to be a member of the Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Honors Society. She also completed a General Practice Residency with at the Montefiore Medical Center, where she received valuable training in root canal therapy, crowns and bridges, dental implant restorations, oral surgery, and more. Today, she is a proud member of the following organizations:
American Dental Association
New York State Dental Association
New Jersey State Dental Association
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
When she isn’t busy caring for teeth, one of Dr. Portnoff’s biggest passions is traveling! She lived in Sicily during college and has been to several National Parks, with hopefully many more to come. She also enjoys spending quality time with family and friends (especially on the beaches in Cape Cod), seeing live music, playing Mahjong, and exploring new restaurants and hidden gems in Manhattan, where she lives. She’s always open to new recommendations!
